From the mouths of babes

Emmett, upon seeing Grandma's sewing room, said: "What a mess! You have to clean up this room!"

Wise Beyond His Years

An actual exchange while driving to Southern California: Emmett: "I want to go to Fry's to buy some computer stuff for Dad's computer." David: "He's a wise boy." Stephanie (to Emmett): "You are wise beyond your years." Emmett (sticking his fingers in his ears): "I'm wise behind my ears!"

Tool Using Monkey

As I was packing for our latest trip to Southern California, Emmett did a great job of entertaining himself. He had a lot of fun running around the house with a fishnet, using it to flip light switches on and off. (Neither David nor I taught him to do this.)

Dancing with Teddy

One of the songs on our Music Together collection this session is a sweet little waltz called "Dancing with Teddy." I had just finished sewing when I went to Emmett's room and saw him holding his teddy bear and twirling in circles (while the song lyrics went "turning around and around and around...). It's playing right now -- Emmett asked me to start it again.

Mini Gardner

As you are well aware, Emmett loves water. Yesterday when David was working in the yard, he set Emmett to watering the front planters. Emmett loves watering, and would water one spot for hours if you let him. With just a little input, however, you can get him to move on to the next spot and get some really productive work done. Who knew two year olds could be useful?

That Funny Kid

After putting Emmett down for his nap today, I went to take a nap in my bed. He didn't sleep long, and soon showed up next to me. He was saying something about showing me his belly, so I told him to go ahead. When he lifted his shirt, his other hand was holding a cow magnet on his belly. He said "I just wanted to show you the cow on my belly." Later this evening, Emmett watched a train go by. After it was gone, Emmett asked David where the train went. David said it was gone. Emmett said "Maybe it went home to take a bath too!"

Running with Emmett

Lately when I run with Emmett in the jog stroller, he's started yelling "Run faster! Run faster!"

The Making of a Race Car Driver

So Emmett has been to the Laguna Seca race track twice now, to watch race cars and to watch his daddy drive. He's gotten to sit in a race car and splash in the puddles. Yesterday, David ran across a DVD he got from Skip Barber, so I played it. It's a nice promo for their racing programs featuring cool images and sounds of race cars on the track. Emmett was enthralled, and requested to watch it again this morning. Several times.

New Photo Gallery

My e-mail is still not settled for sending, so I'm posting this here -- there are new photos up at www.ozenne.com/emmett .
