Accidental Pest

Today was Emmett's first day back at Spanish school (he went for about a week before Christmas). I always ask him about his day, what his favorite part was, and how confusing it was. Trying to be sure he's not having any problems in class, I also ask him if any of the kids had any trouble, or if he had any trouble in class.

Before Christmas, one day he reported that Larkin (a little girl) had some trouble. When I asked him what it was, he said "I was pushing my hand towards her." After a bit of back and forth, I discovered that he was sitting across from her, and was sliding his hand on the table into her space to bug her. Trying very hard not to laugh, I asked him not to bother her any more.

Today, no kids had any trouble in class. I decided to ask specifically if he bugged Larkin. He said he did, so I asked for more info. He said "I accidentally leaned on her." ARGH.

At the first week of their ski lessons, David dropped Emmett and Luke off at their classes.  Yesterday David was starting his class, though, so I took them to their classes.  There are a lot of classes that meet outside, so there are signs up for each class - the big kids meet by letters and the little kids meet by numbers.  Emmett is in class "I" and Luke is in class 11.  The alphabet signs were clearly visible as we approached, but the numbers were behind some trees so I turned to ask Luke which way we should go around them.  Emmett helpfully called out, "See those signs?  My class meets by the one with a single line on it!"  Um, thanks for describing the letter "I" in a way I can understand, Emmett!

A Short Eclipse Video

Our eclipse trip was ... stressful!!! We were in the Texas hill country, and all those cloud predictions, and the clouds we were experiencing the day before, had us on edge. Through the entire partial phase, the sun was behind the clouds, peeking through now and then. We didn't have a chance to play with eclipse shadows at all! Then during totality, the clouds were thin enough that we got to see it, for almost the entire duration of totality. We lost 20-30 seconds max. So much relief and joy! During the last few moments of totality the clouds rolled back in - I think it extended our experience of the Bailey's beads, because the clouds gave us extra protection as the sun returned (and then they swallowed the sun again).  Anyway, this short video (around a minute) captures our trip into totality, starting with cloud cover but a few seconds later the sun breaking through the clouds. ❤ Eclipse audio really is the best way to "understand" the difference between a partial e
