Putting Luke to sleep

Putting Luke to sleep is fun. After nursing in the bed for a while, he'll usually lie flat on his back and squirm for a bit. Then he'll sit up (I usually help him, otherwise he just gets mad). Then he'll suck his thumb and lie back down on my arm. If he starts to fuss, I'll sing. Tonight, every time I'd start singing "I gave my love a cherry" he'd roll towards me and start sucking his thumb. Seriously - almost every time!

After a few (or more) times through this pattern, he'll be so sleepy that even when he sits up he doesn't open his eyes. His head bobs around and he slumps against my body, putting his head down and sucking his thumb. Then I'll slide him back down into my arms. Tonight, after he was clearly asleep, I saw him reach out like he was trying to get up. I decided not to help and he just flopped back down, completely asleep.

At the first week of their ski lessons, David dropped Emmett and Luke off at their classes.  Yesterday David was starting his class, though, so I took them to their classes.  There are a lot of classes that meet outside, so there are signs up for each class - the big kids meet by letters and the little kids meet by numbers.  Emmett is in class "I" and Luke is in class 11.  The alphabet signs were clearly visible as we approached, but the numbers were behind some trees so I turned to ask Luke which way we should go around them.  Emmett helpfully called out, "See those signs?  My class meets by the one with a single line on it!"  Um, thanks for describing the letter "I" in a way I can understand, Emmett!

A Short Eclipse Video

Our eclipse trip was ... stressful!!! We were in the Texas hill country, and all those cloud predictions, and the clouds we were experiencing the day before, had us on edge. Through the entire partial phase, the sun was behind the clouds, peeking through now and then. We didn't have a chance to play with eclipse shadows at all! Then during totality, the clouds were thin enough that we got to see it, for almost the entire duration of totality. We lost 20-30 seconds max. So much relief and joy! During the last few moments of totality the clouds rolled back in - I think it extended our experience of the Bailey's beads, because the clouds gave us extra protection as the sun returned (and then they swallowed the sun again).  Anyway, this short video (around a minute) captures our trip into totality, starting with cloud cover but a few seconds later the sun breaking through the clouds. ❤ Eclipse audio really is the best way to "understand" the difference between a partial e
