Feeding Luke

When I first started feeding Luke (at about 5 1/2 months), he wasn't really interested. In fact, he never ate more than about an ounce at a time until just a few weeks ago - about the time that we got back from the trip to California. Now, he'll eat about 2 ounces of baby food a couple of times a day, along with a 2" hunk of banana stuffed into his baby-safe feeder. And countless Cheerios.

At first, he just swatted at the Cheerios and played with them. Then, they'd get stuck to his hands and sometimes he'd get them into his mouth. Now he deliberately picks them up and stuffs them into his mouth. He then "chews" them, as much as a baby without teeth can chew, and goes for another one. It seems to be his favorite part of dinner. I've got to make some finger foods for him, I guess.

At the first week of their ski lessons, David dropped Emmett and Luke off at their classes.  Yesterday David was starting his class, though, so I took them to their classes.  There are a lot of classes that meet outside, so there are signs up for each class - the big kids meet by letters and the little kids meet by numbers.  Emmett is in class "I" and Luke is in class 11.  The alphabet signs were clearly visible as we approached, but the numbers were behind some trees so I turned to ask Luke which way we should go around them.  Emmett helpfully called out, "See those signs?  My class meets by the one with a single line on it!"  Um, thanks for describing the letter "I" in a way I can understand, Emmett!

A Short Eclipse Video

Our eclipse trip was ... stressful!!! We were in the Texas hill country, and all those cloud predictions, and the clouds we were experiencing the day before, had us on edge. Through the entire partial phase, the sun was behind the clouds, peeking through now and then. We didn't have a chance to play with eclipse shadows at all! Then during totality, the clouds were thin enough that we got to see it, for almost the entire duration of totality. We lost 20-30 seconds max. So much relief and joy! During the last few moments of totality the clouds rolled back in - I think it extended our experience of the Bailey's beads, because the clouds gave us extra protection as the sun returned (and then they swallowed the sun again).  Anyway, this short video (around a minute) captures our trip into totality, starting with cloud cover but a few seconds later the sun breaking through the clouds. ❤ Eclipse audio really is the best way to "understand" the difference between a partial e
