More on Luke's language

For a while now, Luke responds to spoken commands. He successfully responds to stuff like "See Daddy's shoe? Go get Daddy's shoe," or "Bring me a book and I'll read it to you."

In the car, he sometimes fights when it's time to get strapped into his car seat. When David was driving a few days ago, I decided to try explaining to Luke why I needed him to sit down and get strapped in. I told him it was time to drive, and that we all needed to be in our seat belts to be safe. I went through each of the car occupants in turn - "Emmett is getting on his seat belt, Daddy has on his seat belt, Mommy is getting on her seat belt, and it's time for Luke to get on his seat belt." He immediately sat down and just looked at me (not yelling!) and let me strap him in.

Of course, that was probably a total fluke and I'll still have to fight with him. But it gave the impression of a great deal of understanding at the time!

At the first week of their ski lessons, David dropped Emmett and Luke off at their classes.  Yesterday David was starting his class, though, so I took them to their classes.  There are a lot of classes that meet outside, so there are signs up for each class - the big kids meet by letters and the little kids meet by numbers.  Emmett is in class "I" and Luke is in class 11.  The alphabet signs were clearly visible as we approached, but the numbers were behind some trees so I turned to ask Luke which way we should go around them.  Emmett helpfully called out, "See those signs?  My class meets by the one with a single line on it!"  Um, thanks for describing the letter "I" in a way I can understand, Emmett!

Birthday Weekends: Highly recommended!!!!

Birthday Cake #1 came with a crazy candle from my sister Rebecca: The candle actually worked really well! No need to have a fire extinguisher standing by. ") The Anniversary Inn in Salt Lake City has fun themed rooms like this one, the Mysteries of Egypt Suite.  There's a shower head in the snake's mouth, and the tub fills with water that trickles down the rocks off to the side! (it's kind of slow) Rebecca and Andrea upgraded our room to a package that included robes and roses and lots of fun treats. We were very well fed! Birthday Cake #2 matches my headband. We played ring toss with glowing necklaces and my unicorn horn.  Karaoke friends.  Loot!!!
