I don't think he gets it.

While riding in the car, Emmett read some trivia questions about Shrek to David and I. There were three questions on the card, but he didn't stop after reading them just once. On the first go-round, we didn't know the answers. For the next couple cycles we answered correctly. Like a quiz show host, Emmett would yell out "You get a point" to whoever answered first and tell us who was ahead. It was getting a bit tedious, so we started answering wrong. One of the questions was "What color was Shrek's hair when he was a human?" The answer was brown, but David and I were listing off every color we could think of. Emmett started giving clues, finally revealing to us that it starts with "BR" and ends with "OWN."

David shouted out "Breakdown!"

Emmett had had enough, and said, "You've got to be kidding me! It's BROWN!!!"

At the first week of their ski lessons, David dropped Emmett and Luke off at their classes.  Yesterday David was starting his class, though, so I took them to their classes.  There are a lot of classes that meet outside, so there are signs up for each class - the big kids meet by letters and the little kids meet by numbers.  Emmett is in class "I" and Luke is in class 11.  The alphabet signs were clearly visible as we approached, but the numbers were behind some trees so I turned to ask Luke which way we should go around them.  Emmett helpfully called out, "See those signs?  My class meets by the one with a single line on it!"  Um, thanks for describing the letter "I" in a way I can understand, Emmett!

A Short Eclipse Video

Our eclipse trip was ... stressful!!! We were in the Texas hill country, and all those cloud predictions, and the clouds we were experiencing the day before, had us on edge. Through the entire partial phase, the sun was behind the clouds, peeking through now and then. We didn't have a chance to play with eclipse shadows at all! Then during totality, the clouds were thin enough that we got to see it, for almost the entire duration of totality. We lost 20-30 seconds max. So much relief and joy! During the last few moments of totality the clouds rolled back in - I think it extended our experience of the Bailey's beads, because the clouds gave us extra protection as the sun returned (and then they swallowed the sun again).  Anyway, this short video (around a minute) captures our trip into totality, starting with cloud cover but a few seconds later the sun breaking through the clouds. ❤ Eclipse audio really is the best way to "understand" the difference between a partial e
