The Wedding

We all had a good time at the wedding, though at the time I found myself wondering what on earth I'd been thinking. Emmett is perfect; just like when traveling on a plane, he takes care of himself well enough that I can focus on Luke. But really, what do a five and two year old get out of a wedding? And why didn't I see it from their point of view before we were sitting there?

Both Luke and the flower girl had their second birthdays within a day or two of the wedding, so the Bride and Groom got them cupcakes and sang "Happy Birthday" to the two of them. It was really sweet. At first, David was trying to give the cupcake to Luke, but Luke said, "You eat it!" Eventually, though, Luke did eat the frosting off of one half of the cupcake. Emmett ate the other half - it made a great diversion after the appetizers and before dinner was served. If you ask Luke what he liked about the wedding, he'll say, "Cake!" In all, a successful evening.

At the first week of their ski lessons, David dropped Emmett and Luke off at their classes.  Yesterday David was starting his class, though, so I took them to their classes.  There are a lot of classes that meet outside, so there are signs up for each class - the big kids meet by letters and the little kids meet by numbers.  Emmett is in class "I" and Luke is in class 11.  The alphabet signs were clearly visible as we approached, but the numbers were behind some trees so I turned to ask Luke which way we should go around them.  Emmett helpfully called out, "See those signs?  My class meets by the one with a single line on it!"  Um, thanks for describing the letter "I" in a way I can understand, Emmett!

A Short Eclipse Video

Our eclipse trip was ... stressful!!! We were in the Texas hill country, and all those cloud predictions, and the clouds we were experiencing the day before, had us on edge. Through the entire partial phase, the sun was behind the clouds, peeking through now and then. We didn't have a chance to play with eclipse shadows at all! Then during totality, the clouds were thin enough that we got to see it, for almost the entire duration of totality. We lost 20-30 seconds max. So much relief and joy! During the last few moments of totality the clouds rolled back in - I think it extended our experience of the Bailey's beads, because the clouds gave us extra protection as the sun returned (and then they swallowed the sun again).  Anyway, this short video (around a minute) captures our trip into totality, starting with cloud cover but a few seconds later the sun breaking through the clouds. ❤ Eclipse audio really is the best way to "understand" the difference between a partial e
