Living with Luke

Luke is a picky eater. We work it out - when I can I hide veggies in his food, I try to get him to try stuff (yeah right), and I try not to worry about it too much.

A couple of days ago, David put his finger on the part that actually is frustrating. It's not the fickle preferences, it's the fact that his fickle preferences change day by day. This weekend I made a lemon meringue pie. When I gave him a piece, Luke decided that he only likes meringue (without trying the lemon part, of course). He ate all the meringue from that piece of pie. Today, I cut a piece and tried to gave him a bite of meringue. Although he had been looking forward to having pie, he said he didn't like meringue. I offered him the lemon, but he didn't want that either. I did coax him into trying one bite of meringue today, but he acted like it was yucky.

I've had the same thing happen with cookies. And of course, he knows without trying them that he doesn't like corn, green beans, or any other vegetable I might put on his plate. At least I've convinced him that it's ok to keep food on his plate, even if he's not eating it - it's a big improvement over what he used to do with it. :)
