Beach boys

Emmett and Luke really enjoyed spending time at the beach while in California. At first Luke was timid, so I just got him into his water clothes and assured him that the choice to get wet or not was his. It did take him a little time to warm up to the idea, but after about an hour of playing in the sand he was ready to get his feet into some waves. He and Emmett both had a great time playing at the edge of the water and getting splashed.

When we went to watch the end of the pier-to-pier swim they played in the water again. I thought that since it was early and we wouldn't be at the beach very long they would just play in the sand so we didn't have swim clothes. They just got wet anyway. Emmett later grabbed on to my words and told me that I should have known better and brought the water clothes, of course they wouldn't stay dry!

At the first week of their ski lessons, David dropped Emmett and Luke off at their classes.  Yesterday David was starting his class, though, so I took them to their classes.  There are a lot of classes that meet outside, so there are signs up for each class - the big kids meet by letters and the little kids meet by numbers.  Emmett is in class "I" and Luke is in class 11.  The alphabet signs were clearly visible as we approached, but the numbers were behind some trees so I turned to ask Luke which way we should go around them.  Emmett helpfully called out, "See those signs?  My class meets by the one with a single line on it!"  Um, thanks for describing the letter "I" in a way I can understand, Emmett!

A Short Eclipse Video

Our eclipse trip was ... stressful!!! We were in the Texas hill country, and all those cloud predictions, and the clouds we were experiencing the day before, had us on edge. Through the entire partial phase, the sun was behind the clouds, peeking through now and then. We didn't have a chance to play with eclipse shadows at all! Then during totality, the clouds were thin enough that we got to see it, for almost the entire duration of totality. We lost 20-30 seconds max. So much relief and joy! During the last few moments of totality the clouds rolled back in - I think it extended our experience of the Bailey's beads, because the clouds gave us extra protection as the sun returned (and then they swallowed the sun again).  Anyway, this short video (around a minute) captures our trip into totality, starting with cloud cover but a few seconds later the sun breaking through the clouds. ❤ Eclipse audio really is the best way to "understand" the difference between a partial e
