Incorrect

I was talking to David (about what, I cannot remember) when Emmett chimed in with a correction. But he was wrong and I had been right, and in the back-and-forth with him (which, again, I cannot remember!) he said, "It's more like I 'incorrected' you!"

(grrr - I wish I could remember more of this - it was really funny!)

Emmett has been reading and re-reading and re-reading all of the Murderous Maths books, and enjoying them immensely. He told me that you can't have a right triangle with an obtuse angle in it. I, being a geek and kind of mean, said, "Well, you can't unless the triangle is on the surface of a sphere." We've talked about triangles on spheres before, but I was a bit surprised when he confidently responded, "Correct!" His dad, not to be outdone, wondered about a triangle on a hyperbolic plane (shaped like a pringle), but shortly concluded that it could only be done in spaces with positive curvature. Insults from my child

Emmett and I went skiing today. Because of the location of runs at Brighton, I generally have to go down one of the steepest runs I'm willing to ski right at the start of the day. Since I'm not warmed up and it's pretty darn steep (for me, anyway), I tend to try to ski it very slowly, taking shallow traverses across the mountain so I don't feel like I'm going to lose control. I was talking about that with Emmett on our next lift, saying, "When I'm on the steep stuff I want to be sure I can stop, so I almost stop before every turn, which I know is ridiculous, but..." Emmett jumped right in and said, "Yeah, mom. You look ridiculous."

Happy Birthday Luke!

After having been to a wedding on Saturday and a 70th birthday party for my mom on Sunday, Luke turned two on Monday. Three days, three parties. Luke's party was very low key - Grandparents, a great-grandma, Emmett, Luke and I all made Birthday Crowns from gold paper and stickers. We had helium balloons, lunch, and cake. Although Luke has recently decided that ice cream is yummy, he still doesn't like cake, so I gave him the whipped-cream icing off of my piece and he was happy. And now he's two!
