Smarter than he looks!

We went to Noodles for dinner today. It was kind of chaotic - zillions of teenagers in formal dresses had decided to eat there before the dance. We lucked into a table, though, and got our food. After eating we wanted to leave pretty quickly to make room for others. Between telling Luke to stop playing with the window blinds, wondering why Emmett was wearing the crazy glasses he got with tickets at Boondocks last week, and asking each kid if they wanted to bring their drinks (vanilla root beer!) home with us (Emmett, no, Luke and Henry, yes), I left my purse on the seat in the booth. As I headed towards the door, Henry jumped back into the booth. Just as I started to say, "Henry, we're leaving!" I realized that he not only knew I'd forgotten my purse, but he was getting it for me. Not bad for a not-quite-three year old!

At the first week of their ski lessons, David dropped Emmett and Luke off at their classes.  Yesterday David was starting his class, though, so I took them to their classes.  There are a lot of classes that meet outside, so there are signs up for each class - the big kids meet by letters and the little kids meet by numbers.  Emmett is in class "I" and Luke is in class 11.  The alphabet signs were clearly visible as we approached, but the numbers were behind some trees so I turned to ask Luke which way we should go around them.  Emmett helpfully called out, "See those signs?  My class meets by the one with a single line on it!"  Um, thanks for describing the letter "I" in a way I can understand, Emmett!

A Short Eclipse Video

Our eclipse trip was ... stressful!!! We were in the Texas hill country, and all those cloud predictions, and the clouds we were experiencing the day before, had us on edge. Through the entire partial phase, the sun was behind the clouds, peeking through now and then. We didn't have a chance to play with eclipse shadows at all! Then during totality, the clouds were thin enough that we got to see it, for almost the entire duration of totality. We lost 20-30 seconds max. So much relief and joy! During the last few moments of totality the clouds rolled back in - I think it extended our experience of the Bailey's beads, because the clouds gave us extra protection as the sun returned (and then they swallowed the sun again).  Anyway, this short video (around a minute) captures our trip into totality, starting with cloud cover but a few seconds later the sun breaking through the clouds. ❤ Eclipse audio really is the best way to "understand" the difference between a partial e
